Express Train

This is Grand Central Station which I use everyday. From here to Scarsdale, there are several kinds of rail services. During rush hour, express trains stop at Scarsdale and go to Grand Central Station. Such trains are usually congested but you can sit down anyway. There are local services as well. Some express trains do not stop at Scarsdale but stop at other stations which my train skips.

Confusingly, both express and local trains stop at the same platform. Yesterday, I took a train back home without thinking much. Then I realized it doesn't stop anywhere until White Plains which is two stations after Scarsdale and I had to take a taxi to reach to my home finally. Lesson learnt: make sure you get on the right train.

気をつけていないと、自分の駅に止まらない電車に乗ってしまう羽目に陥ります。携帯でMetro North Railroad のサイトを見て、次の電車はどこに止まるかチェックしなければなりません。（ホームの入り口か中央コンコースに行けば、止まる駅は掲示されているんですけど。でもホームはコンコースと違う階だったりするので、面倒なのです。）

Rabbit Visited

　庭先に動物が出るという話を何人かの方から聞いていたのですが・・・ほんとにウサギが出現！近づくと逃げてしまいそうだったので、iPhoneでがんばってズームしたのですが、わかるでしょうか？子ウサギでした。しばらく草を食べていましたが、うちの子どもたちがそーっと近づくと、猛ダッシュで逃げて行ってしまいました。

　昨日はリスも走っていました。夜には蛍も飛んでいました。都心からそれほど離れているわけではないのですが、ぜいたくな環境です。

We saw a rabbit in our yard today. Hope you can find it in this photo. Yesterday, a squirrel came, too. And at night time, you can see firefly flying.

My New Home!

We moved to our home from the hotel yesterday. Since we still don't have our beds yet, we sleep in the sleeping bags. And still no tables, so a box of TV set we newly bought became our tentative table. It's like camping inside the house. But at least it's nice to be at home.

Today, an engineer of Cablevision came to our house and set up TV, telephone and internet connection.

I drove a little for the first time after nearly 15 years. So scary!! I do need serious practice to get a driver's license.

7月1日に引越しました！ベッドもテーブルもまだないので多少不便ですが、テレビやネット、電話がつながったので、少し落ち着きました。目下最大の問題は、運転免許をどーやって取るか。ペーパードライバー歴が長いので、とっても怖いです！！

Metro North Railroad

オフィスは42nd Streetにあります。Grand Central Stationから歩いて5分ほど。タイムズ・スクエアも近くにあるので、この季節は朝夕は通勤の人と観光客で道は混んでいます。

今 とりあえず滞在しているウィークリー・マンションも、これから住む予定の家もウェストチェスター郡にあるので、電車でGrand Central Stationまで30分ほどかけて通勤します。通勤時間帯は本数もわりとあり、急行電車もあるので、便利です。しかも座れないことはほとんどありませ ん。

便利な電車、Metro North Railroadですが、郊外を走っている間は快適に進んでいるのに、なぜかマンハッタンに入り、ハーレムの駅を過ぎてからGrand Centralに行くまでの間は、突然スピードが遅くなり、びっくりするほどノロノロ運転になってしまいます。日本ではこういう走り方、しないんですけど ね。

Go to my office on 42nd Street by using Metro North Railroad. The office is close from Grand Central Station so it' s convenient. At this time of the year, streets are full of commuters and tourists. The office is right in front of New York City Library (the wedding place at S&TC!). The strangest thing about Metro North Railroad is that the train always speeds down suddenly after it passes Harlem 125th St.

引越し準備 Moving soon

今日はレンタカーを借りることができました。私はまだ見ていないのですが、子どもによると大きいのだとか。自分で運転できるのか、あまり自信ありません！
家の保険に入り、水道・ガス・電気も明日から使えるようにしてもらい、電話工事は土曜日にセットされました。

Got a rent-a-car today. My kids say it is big SUV though I haven't seen it yet. Wonder if I can drive such a car.

ニューヨーク到着

6月19日（日）にニューヨークに到着しました。とりあえずはWhite Plains のウィークリーマンションに滞在。幸い19日、20日に不動産物件を見てすぐに住居を決めることができました。本日26日に契約締結予定です。　→無事に契約終了！大家さんはイタリア人のおじいちゃんでした。

この1週間はママは仕事引き継ぎ、家族は買い物＋時差解消。水曜日にはMary Poppins のミュージカルを見に行っていました。

昨日の土曜日はママロネックのＫ子さん宅にバーベキューに呼んでいただき、郊外のお宅の生活を見せていただきました。

Arrived in NY on 19 June. Found a nice house to rent in Scarsdale and perhaps will be able to move there on 1 July.
